I am a firm believer that foods are meant to heal us and keep us healthy.  In today's industrial societies, nutrient packed foods are scarce in the typical diet.  Instead they have been replaced by refined processed foods, in which the nutrients are removed or destroyed for the sake of cheap mass production.  My purpose in society is to introduce foods that are meant to heal us.  In my New York, NY office many of my patients are "WOWed" by how much better they feel after making simple changes to their diet.

Today, I want to talk about ginger and its healing properties.  Ginger is a plant that is in the same botanical family as turmeric.  The root of this plant has many healing qualities that I want to make you aware of.

This is not a complete list of ginger benefits, but it is a list of claims that is backed up by research:
Ginger can help relieve joint discomfort 42, 43, 44, 45, 45a, 33, 34, 35, 36.*
Ginger causes apoptosis (cell death) of prostate, pancreatic,, and breast cancer cells   110, 111, 112, 113, 114.*
Ginger decreases symptoms associated with painful menstruation (Dysmenorrhea)  63, 64, 65.*
Ginger decreases blood pressure in people with hypertension 62.*

Incorporating ginger into your diet is easy.  You can consume ginger as a tea, a spice, or add ground ginger to a protein shake or smoothie.
